Our History

Fishtail AS is today owned 100% by Jarle Karlsrud. In 2002-2003, Jarle was on a one-year sailing trip from Norway to the Caribbean and back. Out at sea, he had plenty of time to think and the dream of one day working for himself was born. When he came home the summer of 2003, he established one-man company "Firma Jarle Karlsrud". The activities here were basically the same as the Fishtail AS work on today, but it was in the beginning just a hobby.

In 2006 Jarle Karlsrud established the company Vestfold Eiendom AS (Vestfold Property) together with a friend. After a few years of operation it was decided in 2010 the company was liquidated in 2011. Around the same time Jarle experienced a significant increase in sales in his one-man company, and gradually acquired a desire to convert this to a corporation. Jarle bought all the shares in Vestfold Property and changed the name to Fishtail AS. All the activities now moved over to Fishtail AS, and this one-man company has no service after 31.12.11.

In 2012, Fishtail AS is a full-time employment. We have established good cooperation partners in many different areas, and Fishtail is now well equipped for further growth and a bright future. The thoughts that tumbled out there on the sea have now after 10 years become a reality, and it is now the real work begins.

After Jarle came home from sailing trip in 2003, he has written two maritime books, as well as numerous articles for Norwegian and foreign yachting magazines.

The name Fishtail is even older, and has its origins in a "nick" Jarle used in the discussion forums in the internet's youth at the end of the last millennium. The nick would represent Jarle and his interests. He holds great interest for boats and oldfashioned motorcycles. Fishtail is representing these two interests by symbolising something marine (a fish), and the end of the exhaust system on old fashioned motorcycles.
